Gargoyles Goliath, Brooklyn, Broadway, and Lexington Pan Sized 17.5" x 7.25" Production Cel with Master Background and Pan Sized Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, c. 1994-97). "Now, here in Manhattan, the spell is broken, and we live again. We are defenders of the night. We are ...Gargoyles!" Presented in this lot is an outstanding image from the cult-classic Disney animated series Gargoyles, featuring a sensational picture of four of our nocturnal guardians, Goliath, Brooklyn, Broadway, and Lexington, on a hand-painted production cel, featured on a Master background rendered in gouache, and including the matching animation drawing. The intriguing animated show was created by Greg Weisman and featured the titular Gargoyles, beings that turn into stone with the sun, awakened in New York in 1994 after being trapped in rock for a thousand years, teaming with the detective Elisa Maza to guard New York. The production cel has Goliath (7.25"), Broadway (5"), Broadway (4.75"), and Lexington (2.75"), standing up, surrounded by rubble, with New York's skyline behind them. The matching animation drawing has the scene rendered in graphite with colored pencil on the 21" x 9.5" animation sheet. The cel and drawing bear a Walt Disney Television stamp in the bottom right corner, and the cel comes on a 27" x 16.75" Plexiglas-fronted frame with a mat 17.5" x 7.25" opening. This cel was originally offered in 1995 at a New York Auction, with this being lot #593. A COA is included with this lot. The cel shows signs of restoration on the linework and faint surface scratches that don't affect the art, and the animation drawing has light handling wear, pinholes and tape on the top edge, and a vertical fold crease in the middle of the drawing.
