Description
Neon Genesis Evangelion "Rei III" Rei Ayanami Animation Drawing (Gainax, 1996). Invaded by the Angel Armisael, Rei Ayanami decides that the only way to defeat the enemy is to self-destruct the Eva Unit 00 with her inside the mech. Capturing a moving portrait of Rei right before the explosion that wins the battle at the cost of her life, this superb animation drawing shows the First Child overtaken by the Angel's infection, with tears falling from her eyes as she turns to see a glimpse of Gendo's smiling face without his shades, a memory from the episode "Rei, Beyond the Heart." Seen at the 11:36 mark of the 23rd episode of Neon Genesis Evangelion, "Rei III," this 12-field animation drawing has one of the last images of this second version of Rei before the third clone appears in the next episode. This image of the teary-eyed Rei displaying the vein-like protuberances caused by Armisael is rendered in graphite with colored pencil shading and details on 12-field animation paper, numbered B7 in the top right corner. Animator notes in red ink can be seen near Rei's neck and on her mouth. Faint toning is present on the top edge of the animation sheet, and a minor paint stain is seen near Rei's mouth. This lot is in Very Good condition with minor handling and edge wear from production.Auction Info
