Description

Tom and Jerry "Tom and Jerry in the Hollywood Bowl" Tom, Jerry, and Cymbal Player Production Cel Setup with Key Master Background by Robert Gentle (MGM, 1950). Tom conducts a cat orchestra in "Die Fledermaus Overture" at the Hollywood Bowl in this spectacular 12 field 3-peghole 3-cel setup and stunning key master background of the timpani. The short is mentioned on page 95 of Patrick Brion's "Tom and Jerry: The Definitive Guide to Their Animated Adventures" with this cel pictured, and followed Tom and Jerry as they fought over who conducted this grand orchestral piece. The amazing hand-painted and hand-inked setup is separated with Tom, Jerry, and the cymbal-playing cat each on their own layer. They can be found at about 5:31 as a now bruised Tom carries Jerry to the percussion section and places him in range as the cymbals crash together. Tom and Jerry measure about 5'' x 3.25'' while the cymbal player and effects measure roughly 6'' x 5.25'', both taped at the edges to the background and presented in a 11.5'' x 9.5'' mat window and 14'' x 12'' mat. The gouache background was created by Robert Gentle (1914 - 1988), who painted backgrounds for many Tom and Jerry shorts. The cels are noted as 29, 37A, and 5C with the background noted for Scene 27. Fair to Good condition for the cels and Very Good condition for the key master background with minor edge and handling wear, faint paint separation, and some cracking.
