Description

Popeye the Sailor Meets Sinbad the Sailor Popeye and Sinbad Production Cel and Key Master Background (Fleischer Studios, 1936). If you've been looking for Popeye at his best, you can't get much better than this! This epic two-reel animated short was released to theaters on 11/27/1936 and featured the fated meeting of Popeye and Sinbad (as played by Bluto). The short was undoubtedly one of Popeye's greatest and this lot includes an incredible hand-inked and hand-painted 12 field 3-peghole production cel and outstanding Key Master background of the gorge the two are fighting in. The cel can be found towards the end of the short at about the 15:40 timestamp as Popeye shows Sinbad he should eat his greens, repeatedly knocking him against the ground. Popeye and Sinbad measure roughly 7'' x 4.5'' combined with effects while the gouache background measures about 10'' x 8.25'' on 12'' x 9'' background board and is taped to a 13'' x 10.5'' piece of paper. The spinach can and lid have been meticulously trimmed to outline and attached to the background; the background itself is marked for scene 66B. The cel is noted as 68 and has been professionally restored. This rare, detailed piece of production art is in Very Good condition with minor edge and handling wear and pinholes.
