Fantastic Planet Tiwa and Terr Cutout Animation Puppet Group of 92 (Les Films Armorial/Studio Jiri Trnka, 1973). Presented is a generous set of a whopping 92 original puppet elements from the surreal animated sci-fi film Fantastic Planet, directed by René Laloux (1925 - 2004). Depicting the character Tiwa (and one tiny puppet of a young Terr), each of these pieces have been meticulously hand-inked, hand-painted, and hand-trimmed for the ambitious 10-year process of animating the film. This artwork can be seen at the 14:51 mark, and the art is attributed to the film's co-writer, production designer, and famed surrealist Roland Topor (1938 - 1997). Celebrated for its visionary storytelling and unique animation style, utilizing painstakingly crafted character cutouts instead of traditional animation cels, Fantastic Planet was awarded the Grand Prix special jury prize at the 1973 Cannes Film Festival. This lot offers great, one-of-a-kind images of the protagonist Terr and Tiwa, mounted to a 23.75" x 17.25" black board numbered 168. Hardly ever coming to market, this is a rare opportunity to own original production artwork from this cult classic film.
