Herb Trimpe The Outlaw Kid #22 Color Cover Approval Proof (Marvel Comics, 1974). Even in the full flower of its superhero boom, Marvel persisted with the Western titles -- applying dynamic new covers to interior reprints from decades past. Trimpe delivered the actionful goods with this image, seen in a pristine color-test proof, with the signature of editor Stan Lee. As is typical with such primary-source proofs, the colors are more vivid, the dot-screen patterns more emphatic, than on the final published version. Image area, 7" x 10.5".
