Description

Detective Dan, Secret Operative No. 48 #nn (Norman W. Marsh, 1933) Condition: GD/VG. Just the third copy we've ever offered of this Platinum Age rarity. It's the first comic with original material, and the first one to be offered on newsstands. It's so rare that it was all but unknown to the comic hobby until the mid-1990s. Inside are the black-and-white adventures of a detective (a Dick Tracy look-alike) who later turned into Dan Dunn (see the pulp by that name and the comic series that followed). Overstreet asserts that the Wu Fang character who appears on the inside back cover (a preview of a second issue that never came) inspired the cover of Detective Comics #1 and pre-dates the Wu Fang pulp series by two years! The upper right corner is missing from all pages, but no art or text is affected. It also has spine splits. Overstreet 2020 GD 2.0 value = $2,080; VG 4.0 value = $4,160.
