Description

Louis Raemaekers In 1 Year and a Half... Illustration Original Art (Fine Arts Society of London, c. 1915). The controversial political cartoons of Raemaekers prompted his exile from the Netherlands to London, where he became a celebrity via exhibitions at the Fine Arts Society. This unusual combination of Dutch citizens and a German soldier is typical of the artist's understated ironies. Graphite and charcoal with watercolor on Watercolor paper. Image area, 11" x 15". Overall toning and staining. Captions and notes in margins. Reinforced by layer of Bristol board. Generally Good condition. From A Collection of Great Cartoonists and Illustrators.
