Description

Fred Seibel, Walter J. Enright, Richard Hodgins Sr., and Others Editorial Comic Strips Original Art Group of 5 (1930 et Seq.) Seibel, one of Virginia's top political cartoonists, dominates this varied array with a fine large-scale ink-and-watercolor piece, depicting a regional political alliance in terms of a honeymoon. Seibel's signature character, Moses Crow (lower right), parodies the lyric of a popular song of the day, "All by Yourself in the Moonlight." Enright (1938) depicts a disgraced Miami politico, Robert R. Williams, and croneys John W. DuBose and Ralph B. Ferguson in an act of contempt of court. Hodgins (Orlando, FL, Evening Star; 1960s) depicts Disney character Mickey Mouse in a toll-road booster cartoon. Doug Sneyd (of Playboy magazine) offers a spontaneous sketch (undated) of a woman in profile. And a gagman signed only as "B.D." offers comical observations (undated) on the economy. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image areas range from 19" x 13.5". to 5" x 13". Varied age-toning on the earlier pieces. Light toning elsewhere. Excellent condition. From A Collection of Great Cartoonists and Illustrators.
