Walt Kelly Pogo Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 2-18-71 (Publishers-Hall Syndicate, 1971). Classic double-talk routine, here, between key supporting characters Churchy LaFemme and Howland Owl. Though partially sidelined by illness and equipped with various assistants at this stage, Kelly maintained creative authority as a matter of what he once called "keeping the characters honest." This episode is as honest as they come -- and a hum-dinger of a gag, too, of the "Say What!?" variety. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 20" x 6".
