Description
William E. Hill Among Us Mortals-related Original Drawings Group of 10 (New York Tribune and Other Newspapers, 1920s). Eccentric by virtue of their sheer recognizability, Hill's caricatures strike a responsive chord because they look just like us. This generous array dates from the same period in which Hill was producing his famous Sunday comics page, Among Us Mortals, but they employ a markedly different technique -- a textured-charcoal medium, quite unlike the ink-dot pointillism of Mortals. All appear to have originated as newspaper spot-illustrations. Charcoal and white-watercolor retouching on textured stock. Image areas, 7" x 9" to 9" x 15". Conspicuous age-toning and scattered peeling/scuffing. Good to Very Good condition.More information about Hill, William E.. See also: W. E. Hill, Hill Page, Hill, W. E., Will Hill, Will E.
