Description

Who Killed Cock Robin? Jenny Wren Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1935). "He was a wonderful egg, judge. He was so handsome, y'know, and so young!" Jenny Wren, a character inspired by film star Mae West, struts her stuff and states her case in the fantastic David Hand-directed theatrical short Who Killed Cock Robin?, released 6/29/1935. Mae West was so impressed with the caricature's performance that she wrote a letter to Walt Disney complimenting him on the animation. A fresh twist on an old nursery rhyme, Who Killed Cock Robin? tells the story of a criminal court attempting to determine Cock Robin's murderer, only to find that he was merely wounded by Cupid's arrow. This is a spectacular and large original animation drawing of the love interest in question by the hand of Disney legend inductee Ham Luske (1903 - 1968). Luske, a business major with no formal art education before working for Disney, was recognized for his animation of Jenny Wren to the extent that he shortly thereafter began a prolific directorial career with Disney, directing titles like Pinocchio, Fantasia, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, 101 Dalmatians and many more. This image can be seen at the 6:43 mark of Who Killed Cock Robin?, and it measures 9" x 7.75" on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper. The paper shows minor handling and edge wear with light toning due to age. Two pegholes are reinforced. Rendered in graphite with red and green pencil with production notes, the condition is Very Good.
