Neal Adams The Adventures of Jerry Lewis #103 Splash Page 1 Original Art (DC Comics, 1967). Adams was right on the cusp of becoming DC's all-around secret-weapon artist as the publisher revolutionized its approach to eye-catching cover designs and more intensely conflicted super-hero adventures. So what was Adams doing on so purely comical a comic book as Jerry Lewis? Well, for one thing, he was securing a foothold at DC after a 1962-1966 hitch on the NEA syndicate's daily Ben Casey. The present selection, here, comes from Adams' next-to-last Jerry Lewis assignment - "and none too soon," as Adams has said, "since I was eager to show my abilities on more serious characters." The artist's grasp of humor is self-evident in this cross-dresser slapstick scene for funnyman Lewis, in a sillier situation than Lewis himself ever tackled in the movies. The ink-on-Bristol art has an image area of 10" x 13.25", with Adams' autograph beneath. The depth is shallower than the customary 15", with the lower area reserved for typeset indicia.
