Description

Kevin Nowlan Secret Origins #17 "Adam Strange/Dr. Occult" Cover Original Art (DC, 1987). Nowlan vividly captures the essences of heroic protagonists from two distinct periods of DC's development. Adam Strange dates from 1958 as an original character designed to fit into editor Julius Schwartz's sweeping concept of an all-round, SF-based superhero revival. Dr. Occult dates from 1935 as an early creation of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, originators of the Superman franchise. DC had introduced the Secret Origins brand in 1961 as a reprint title for such established serials as Superman, Challengers of the Unknown, and Green Lantern. Times more recent have seen Secret Origins delve into new stories retracing the beginnings of a wider variety of characters. The unusual pairing here of a spaceman hero and a mystical hero inspires one of Nowlan's most sophisticated compositions. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". Excellent condition, with light adhesive seams on the logotypes and boilerplate.
