Walt Kelly Pogo Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 11-6-55 (Hall Syndicate, Inc., 1955). Ol' Barnstable Bear comes roaring across the page with his britches ablaze and a plumber's plunger attached to his backside -- a sure-fire set-up for concentrated hilarity, reinforced by goofball business from Albert Alligator, Beauregard Bugle Boy the Houn' Dawg, Bun Rab, Howland Owl, and one indignant chicken. Laugh-out-loud business from start to finish. Ink over blue wax pencil on Bristol board. The blue bed-image lines are un-erased, allowing a look at Kelly's basic compositional strokes. The image area measures 23" x 16", with light toning and a few push-pin punctures, indicating where Kelly had stabilized the page on the drawing board.
