Description

Frank King Gasoline Alley Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 3-24-46 (Chicago Tribune Syndicate, 1946). An immense piece, more than two feet in height, and hand-tinted by the artist (a common practice with King, once a page had been published). Business partners Skeezix Wallet and Wilmer Bobble encounter Skeezix's sergeant from World War II -- and offer him a job. King's classic plain-folks feature, the Our Town of the comics business, remains as charming and as richly characterized as it did when new. Ink and watercolor over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 17" x 21", matted to 22.25" x 27". Faint toning and light wrinkling and creasing. Editorial notes in margins. Excellent condition.
