Joe found its commander, its conscience, and its lasting identity. The ranks of G.I. Joe stand at attention as Duke takes command, promising to turn this ragtag crew into real soldiers. At his side, Roadblock delivers a sharp warning to anyone smirking at the new top sergeant's resolve. Mike Vosburg's art, inspired by Ron Rudat's iconic designs, captures the instant Duke's authority and charisma take hold. Introduced to fans as a 1983 mail-away figure and leader in the animated series, Duke's commanding presence here completes his transformation into the face of the franchise. Roadblock, whose figure hit toy aisles as this issue landed, enters as the perfect balance of firepower and loyalty. Under Larry Hama's vision, whose remarkable continuity still thrives in 2025, this page marks the moment where toys, television, and comics converged to forge a mythology that remains alive four decades later. Created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". There is adhesive residue from a missing paste-up ("I'm Duke, the new top sergeant around here, and things are going to be different from now on.") and a missing text correction paste-up in Panel 3 (loose paste-up included). The board is lightly toned, with blue pencil editorial marks, discolored stat text paste-ups, whiteout text correction in Panel 3, light handling wear, and irregularly trimmed top edge and right corners.
