Description

John Romita Sr. Amazing Spider-Man Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 7-12-77 (Marvel Comics/Register & Tribune Syndicate Inc., 1977). This is the earliest Romita Spider-Man strip that Heritage has ever offered. The Spider-Man comic book franchise had provided Romita's pathway to prominence in 1966 -- from early attempts to replicate the fan-favorite style of co-creator Steve Ditko (who had left abruptly, in a falling-out with author-editor Stan Lee), to a gradual assertion of the unique Romita style, which became the definitive Spider-Man look for the long term. So who better than Romita to tackle the then new (in 1977) Spider-Man newspaper strip? We get two panels of Mary Jane, and the Kingpin makes an appearance in the last panel. Created in ink on Bristol board with an image area of approximately 17" x 5". There are several whiteout art corrections. Romita has signed the strip in the bottom margin. In Excellent condition.
