Description

Will Eisner The Spirit Complete 7-Page Story Original Art dated 8-20-50 (Register and Tribune Syndicate, 1950). The story "The First Man" features Herkimer Zither on the first page, just as he would like it. It's a wonderful stand-alone story that has the feel of the stories Eisner would do in some of his later-day ground breaking graphic novels. This seven-pager was written by a 21 year-old Jules Feiffer, who would go on to become a legendary cartoonist and writer in his own right. The story was crafted twice-up scale in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 13" x 20". The headers and the P.S. companion footer-strip are all stat paste-ups. The "time stamp" caption boxes are original hand-inked paste-ups. The pages are toned, with some light water damage to the top margins, but not into the image area. Some of the time-stamp paste-ups and one of the first page text paste-ups are missing. The Page 1 top margin is held on with tape. Overall, in Very Good condition.
