Description
Wally Wood Shock SuspenStories #14 Complete 7-Page Story "The Whipping" Original Art (EC, 1954). The Bill Gaines/Al Feldstein story "The Whipping" is a hard-hitting story about racism and a "neo-KKK" group. Bear in mind, this is a pre-Code story from 1954!It was used as a negative example of comic book stories during the Senate Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Juvenile Delinquency of 1954.
There is language in this story that some will find "culturally insensitive", but that puts the story firmly in the time it was released. Sadly, it is very topical in these times as well. The story is a bit heavy-handed and ends with a twist (as you would expect from EC), but it was still shocking for its time. The twice-up scale pages were created in ink and Zipatone over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 13" x 18". Toned, with some paste-up text corrections. In Very Good condition.
