Description

Carl Barks Nobody's Spending Fool Painting Original Art (1974). What was it about Uncle Scrooge that made him such a rich old duck? He never spent any of his hard-earned money, that's what! His thrifty ways began early, as this painting (based on a panel from Four Color #456, "Back to the Klondike," the second Scrooge solo comic) proves.
Look at all the swindlers, grifters, and money-grabbers as they watch a determined Scrooge march past, with every ounce of gold safely secured in his bag! What a remarkably detailed painting! That's the "spangled and flashy" Glittering Goldie there among the crowd, glaring at a Duck who was "tougher than the toughies, and smarter than the smarties." Scrooge will be seeing her again soon!
Barks' own take on this painting was that it "shows Scrooge's character better than any other. It shows that he has dug his gold with hard labor and that he's not going to let any of these fast-buck artists take it away from him. He's not going to do anything but get his gold safely out and into the bank. He won't look to the right or left. All those lovely babes back there don't move him at all. The only thing important to him is to get that sack of gold in the bank."
This oil painting on masonite is the fourth of eight paintings to feature Goldie, and has an image area of approximately 16" x 20". It's been professionally matted and framed (without glass) to an overall size of 28.25" x 24.25", and is in Excellent condition. The wise bidder who wins will certainly be nobody's fool as he proudly displays this magnificent work of art -- we think even Scrooge would agree it will be money well spent! From the Kerby Confer Collection.
