Description

Steve Ditko Marvel Collectors' Item Classics #10 Doctor Strange Pin-Up Original Art (Marvel, 1967). This "Marvel Masterwork" features the Marvel-ous Master of the Mystic Arts... Dr. Strange! Here he is sitting majestically in a chair, as his astral form separates itself from his body. It's a gorgeous pin-up by one of Stephen Strange's most popular artists-his legendary creator, none other than the Master of the Mystic Artwork, Steve Ditko. The twice-up knockout, while published for the first time in this issue, was undoubtedly drawn earlier in Ditko's Strange Tales run, the peak period of him playing a huge role in inventing the entire visual vocabulary of the Marvel Universe, and the image is as perfect as a collector could hope for. Many collectors believe it was originally intended for publication in Amazing Spider-Man Annual #2, which featured Dr. Strange, and which, Iike ASM Annual #1, also featured pin-ups done in this style. One of the truly great images from the entire Marvel Silver Age!
Created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 12.5" x 18.75". The top banner is a stat paste-up. There are whiteout text corrections in the top portion. Lightly toned and in Very Good condition.
From the David Mandel Collection.
