Description

Ron Frenz and Brett Breeding The Amazing Spider-Man #252 Black Costume First Appearance Issue Story Page 20 Original Art (Marvel, 1984). Spider-Man wears his Black Symbiote Suit in this epic splash image from the first issue to feature the alien suit acquired during the "Secret Wars" story arc. For fans, seeing Spidey in anything other than his red-and-blues was a shock -- especially since the issue that explained how he got the new costume wouldn't be released for another seven months (in Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #8). The excitement of seeing Spider-Man in all black sent fans into a frenzy, fueling demand for this issue from its release to the present day. The Symbiote Suit era has long remained a favorite among collectors, and offered here is a slice of that legacy. On the page, Spidey gives two kids a view of New York City most people never see, which helps him realize he still is "your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man." This ties in with the famous cover where Spidey is swinging through the air with these two youngsters in Amazing Fantasy #15-like fashion. Ink and black pencil over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". Slight toning, trimmed corners, blue pencil editorial notes/marks, whiteout touch-ups/corrections, with light soiling and handling wear. Signed by Frenz and writer Tom DeFalco in the bottom margin. In Very Good condition.
