Wonder Comics #1 Court Copy (Fox, 1939) CGC Apparent FN 6.0 Slight (A-1) Off-white to white pages. Wonder Man, the first Superman knockoff, made his first and only appearance in this issue, which hit the newsstands at the same time Batman debut in Detective Comics #27. Unsurprisingly, publisher Victor Fox was quickly hit with a lawsuit from DC (National Periodicals) for copyright infringement, causing Fox to withdraw his creation from future issues. Included are copies of correspondence tracing the provenance of this book from DC Executive Sol Harrison to succeeding owners. The cover is by Will Eisner, who provided story art alongside Bob Kane and Bob Powell. A notable Golden Age rarity, Overstreet lists it as "scarce" and the Photo-Journal Guide to Comic Books rates it an "8" ("rare"). It's currently tied for #57 on Overstreet's list of Top 100 Golden Age Comics.
