Description
SpongeBob SquarePants "Walking Small" SpongeBob as Surfboard with Surfer Fish Production Cel Setup with "Bubblestand" Master Background (Nickelodeon, 1999/2000). "Cowabungaaa!" Surf's up with SpongeBob acting as Scooter's board in this totally tubular original setup featuring a production cel from Episode 18's "Walking Small" paired with a Master background from Episode 2's "Bubblestand" of his long-running Nicktoon. One of Nickelodeon's last originals to premiere in the 1990s (and the only one of the decade still airing with a total of 15 seasons and counting), this long-running series transitioned away from traditional cel animation after the first season. "Walking Small" would debut on March 22, 2000 and revolved around Plankton trying to trick SpongeBob into being aggressively assertive, while "Bubblestand" aired earlier on July 17, 1999 following SpongeBob's attempts to earn a little pocket money by selling bubbles and bubble blowing lessons. Both the cel and background are seen near the end in their respective segments when viewed online, with SpongeBoard FlatPants and surfer Scooter riding the wave near the 10:32 timestamp (the water effects seem to be from a different episode) and the simple undersea motif background appearing near the 10:21 timestamp. Hand-painted with an impressive amount of hand-inked detail, this multilayer 12 field cel has an astonishing image area of 11.25" x 5.75" within which the two characters share a combined height of 2.5"; production codes are found along the lower edges of each layer. The Master background is hand-painted in gouache on background board measuring approximately 11.5" x 9.75" overall with production codes also found along the lower edge. Background artists for Episode 2 include Andy 'Spike' Clark and Calvin G. Liang. With typical handling and edge wear including minor paint wear/discoloration with pinpoint spots of paint loss, faint surface wear/debris, and minor corner creasing, overall this radical setup is in Very Good condition.Auction Info
