Description

George of the Jungle George, Ursula, Ape, and Shep Color Model Cels Group of 4 (Jay Ward, 1967). Jay Ward's final animated television series lasted for only a single 17-episode run - not because it wasn't popular (it was wildly popular, with George ranking at #30 on TV Guide's list of the "50 Greatest Cartoon Characters of All Time") but because production costs regularly ran over budget, meaning a financial loss for the studio. The animation was produced in the US (instead of Mexico where Jay's prior shows were animated), and the improved production values can be seen in this incredible set of four original hand-inked, hand-painted 12 field color model cels. George is seen flexing his muscles, with an approximate image size of 7.5" x 7.5". His curvaceous mate Ursula has an image size of 2.5" x 6.5". George's "closest friend" was the intelligent ape named Ape, who has an image size of 5.5" x 5.25". Shep, the family pet elephant measures 6.25" x 5". All four have color call-outs noted in ink. The cels are in Very Good condition with very minor handing wear. Oh, by the way, George... watch out for that tree!!
