Description
SpongeBob SquarePants "Karate Choppers" SpongeBob Production Cel with Master Pan Background (Nickelodeon, 1999). From the hysterical and action-packed SpongeBob SquarePants Episode "Karate Choppers," we have in this lot a terrific hand-painted production cel showcasing our spongy protagonist covered in barnacle loaf slices, presented on a beautiful pan-sized Master background. Trying to get his mind off practicing karate, SpongeBob takes Sandy to the park and starts slicing barnacle loaf with his hands, and before he realizes it, he goes overboard and starts a karate fight with his squirrel friend. The two-layer production cel has SpongeBob, as seen at about the 7:55 mark of the segment, covered in delicious slices of barnacle loaf while some rounds fly around, measuring a figure size of 6.25" x 6.75". The cel is featured on a Master background of the episode, numbered S/B#135 near the bottom left corner, rendered in gouache the terrific underwater landscape, attributed to Peter Bennett, Michael Chen, or Andy Clark, the background painters for the episode. Created in gouache and measuring an image size of 21" x 10", the pan background is a great example of the fabulous art style that makes the show very recognizable. The Master background shows some creasing on the left edge, with a small water stain close to the bottom left corner. Showing light handling and edge wear from production.
