Description

Weird Tales #118 October 1933 Frank M. Robinson Pedigree (Popular Fiction) CGC NM- 9.2 White pages. The sole highest-graded certified copy of the single most popular pulp, this is sure to cause batty bidding! Margaret Brundage's classic bat woman cover has never looked better. An impressive grade, page quality, pedigree, and provenance collection come together for a stellar copy of this classic pulp.
This is truly something special. This iconic book sports unimaginably sharp corners, a pristine logo, and immaculate covers. The highest-graded copy we've seen prior to this was a CGC 7.5 which sold for $31,200 at the beginning of this year. That marks a more than $20,000 difference in the price of a CGC 5.5 and a CGC 7.5, and there is no telling what this may hammer at.
This issue ranks highly among pulp, comic, and book collectors, as it bears one of the most memorable of all pulp images and a selection of great stories. Within, the issue includes the Conan story "The Pool of the Black One" by Robert E. Howard, "Seed of the Sepulcher" by Clark Ashton Smith, a Jules de Grandin story by Seabury Quinn, and a reprint of H. P. Lovecraft's "The Festival" (a Cthulhu mythos story).
This is the kind of pulp collectors have been clamoring for since the very first day CGC announced they would be certifying pulps. CGC notes, "Very minor amount of color touch on cover." Bookery's Guide to Pulps Second Edition 2020 VF 8.0 value = $2,000. CGC census 9/25: 1 in 9.2, none higher. NOTE: The newly released Bookery's Guide to Pulps: Revised Third Edition 2025 VF 8.0 value for this issue is $30,000.
From the Dr. Richard Meli Collection.
