Weird Tales #2 April 1923 (Rural) CGC VF 8.0 White pages. The rarest issue of Weird Tales is presented here in unimaginable condition. While the first issue is legendary in its own right, the second is far tougher to find. Many pulp collectors may go their whole lives without encountering this issue, and we've never seen an unrestored copy in better than Fair condition, with restored copies topping out at VG-. This pulp should not exist in this shape, and yet somehow, it does.Weird Tales is often associated with the color red because of its red cover borders throughout the 1920s and red spines throughout the 1930s; the red here has remained impeccably vibrant despite its more than 100-year lifespan. The sharp cover is complemented perfectly by the white pages within. The cover depicts French detective Jules Peret thrown back by a mystical red and white entity, an accurate depiction of our wonder upon encountering this book.
The second issue of the longest-running and most iconic of all pulp horror titles, this issue features an eerie cover by R. M. Mally and part two of two of O. A. Kline's "The Thing of a Thousand Shapes". Bookery's Guide to Pulps describes the issue as "very rare". Tattered copies of this book sell for thousands, so there is no telling what this may end at. Bookery's Guide to Pulps Second Edition 2020 VF 8.0 value = $16,000. CGC census 9/25: 1 in 8.0, none higher. NOTE: The newly released Bookery's Guide to Pulps: Revised Third Edition 2025 VF 8.0 value for this issue is $40,000.
