Batman #1 (DC, 1940) CGC VF- 7.5 Off-white pages. A cultural icon, Batman and Robin are names known to millions worldwide. First appearing in 1939, Batman took the comics-reading public by storm, soon graduating to his own best-selling title. Eventually becoming one of comics' biggest stars, Bat-mania soon moved into other avenues of popular media, eventually appearing in a long-running newspaper comic strip, several popular serials, a hit TV show, a blockbuster movie and, if the rumors are true, a big-budget Broadway musical. The Darknight Detective has truly become a part of our modern mythology, whose roots can be traced back to this, the very first issue of his own comic. A truly landmark issue, this book introduced such legendary characters as the Joker and the Catwoman (called, simply, "The Cat" in this story), and retold the origin that has become so familiar to so many. Sporting a classic Bob Kane cover and the very first Batman and Robin pin-up on the back, this comic just screams "classic" on so many levels. In exceptional condition, there are only a handful of unrestored copies that exist in nicer shape than this. Some general soiling and rounding of corners, along with some moderate spine wear, are about the only defects one can discern upon examination of this lovely book.
