Description

William Stout - Frankenstein's Monster Illustration and Fantasy Illustration Preliminary Original Art (2000). With a single flower in hand, all he ever wanted was a bit of friendship and kindness. William Stout taps straight into our sympathies with this poignant take on Mary Shelley's iconic creature, reminding us the real horror was how he was treated. On the reverse is a preliminary sketch that appears to depict Dejah Thoris, the famed Barsoomian princess from Edgar Rice Burroughs' A Princess of Mars -- a perfect pairing of monsters and Martians from the imagination of a master illustrator. The Frankenstein's Monster illustration is created in mixed media on green art paper with an image area of 4.75" x 10", while the fantasy prelim is done in graphite with an approximate image area of 7.5" x 9". Moisture staining along the top edge and light handling wear. Signed and dated by Stout in the lower right image area. In Very Good condition.
