Description

Harry Turner Alien Invasion Pulp-SF Original Art (c. 1930s-'40s). A handwritten accompanying note traces this vigorous battle scene to the collection of Forrest J Ackerman, a lifelong SF enthusiast and pulp-fiction agent -- best known as the founding editor of Famous Monster of Filmland magazine. Artist Turner (1920-2009) had a varied career, ranging from commercial art to abstract/geometric painting, to jazz-music scholarship, to newspaper advertising. The untitled drawing reflects Turner's admiration of such SF-art masters as Frank R. Paul and Elliott Dold. No publishing pedigree is documented. Ink and white paint over graphite on age-toned and lightly foxed (oxide-stained) Bristol board. Image area, 5" x 7", and the art is in Very Good condition.
