Description

Richard Corben Creepy #60 Story Page 1 (Issue Page 35) Original Art (Warren Publ., 1974). Corben's frequent crossovers from the Underground Comix scene into the near-mainstream horror comics yielded such striking results as "The Hero Within" -- the tale of an imaginative orphan-child and his cruel guardians. This moody introduction establishes the menacing environment in which the child finds himself imprisoned. Corben's delicate original composition, here, is painted in black ink and blue-gray tints; for the published version, Creepy editor Bill DuBay had called for the addition of compatible colors. This exercise in grayscale shading allows a greater depth of detail to show through. Mixed media on age-toned Bristol board. Image area, 10" x 14". Handling wear, with adhesive staining and a missing lower tier of narrative lettering. Intact, otherwise, and as such in Very Good condition.
