Description

Fred Harman Red Ryder Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 1-14-59 (McNaught Syndicate, 1959). Red Ryder's Wild West circus has proved a success, but now the stalwart frontiersman is "gettin' homesick for the ranch" and eager to "wind this show up quick!" Sidekick Little Beaver senses darker currents at work, here. Meanwhile, a weasly-looking grifter and his seductive Frenchwoman accomplice are setting a trap for Red Ryder. Fine dynamic brushwork from cowboy-turned-artist Harman, with a scene-stealing bronc rider in the background of Panel 1 and an expressive close-up shot of Little Beaver in Panel 2. Remembered primarily nowadays for the licensed Daisy-brand Red Ryder B-B Gun, Red Ryder held forth from 1938 through 1965 as a mainstay of the newspapers' comics pages - a bright example of the funnypapers' Western genre. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 22" x 6". Slight toning with marginal handling wear. Excellent condition.
