Description

Bob Dunn and Al Scaduto They'll Do It Every Time Daily Single-Panel Comic Strip Original Art Dated 2-15-68 (King Features Syndicate, 1968). The gabby relatives gush over the new arrival in the maternity ward -- until a nurse realizes that the wrong infant is on display. A classic example of the feature's ability to skewer the quirks and hypocrisies of human behavior. The heading reads: Jimmy Hatlo's They'll Do It Every Time, in homage to originator Hatlo (1897-1963). The name is significant, in that Dunn and Scaduto persist in using Hatlo's phrase, "Thanx and a hat tip," to recognize a gag idea supplied by a reader. Hatlo's actual wording had been "a tip of the Hatlo Hat." Hatlo has invented the strip during the 1920s, and his successors appreciated the legacy so well that they continued to invoke his name. Seldom has such humor been at once so biting and so genial. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 12" x 9.5", matted out to 14" x 11.5". Light toning and logotype-staining. Very Good condition.
