Description

Dick Ayers and John Tartaglione Combat Kelly #7 Story Page 18 Original Art (Marvel Comics, 1973). Tensions mount among squad leader Michael Kelly's Allied soldiers, involving their fear of a nearby group of Nazi war prisoners. A delusional nun proposes to "forget the rules of war ... and live by the rules of ... heaven." This showcase page for classic-style Marvel workhorses Ayers and Tartaglione reflects the influence of a Hollywood film of 1967, The Dirty Dozen, while anticipating the tone of Quentin Tarantino's 2009 war drama, Inglourious Basterds (sic). In the interest of Marvel Universe historical context, the page contains a marginal blurb for the "Dr. Faustus" serial in Captain America #161-162. The Kelly book also is known by the unofficial title of Combat Kelly and His Deadly Dozen. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 10" x 15". Slight toning, with handling wear and marginal spot-staining. Very Good condition.
