Description

Tony Velasquez Liwayway Magazine "Kenkoy" Filipino Story Page Original Art (Ramon Roces Publications, 1937). Tony Velasquez is rightfully so call the "Father of Tagalog Komiks". The Kenkoy strip started in 1929, and with the Japanese occupation in WWII the strip continued as Liwayway magazine was under Japanese control. This makes Kenkoy the oldest running comic strip in the Philippines. This strip, dated 1-8-37, was released almost four years before the occupation and is possibly the oldest Filipino strip Heritage Auctions has ever offered. Created in ink and watercolor over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 13". Signed by Velasquez in the top banner and dated in the last panel. The board is toned, with handling wear, and pinholes in the margin. In Good condition. Comes with a COA.
