Description

Sidney Smith The Gumps Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 2-23-29 (Chicago Tribune, 1929). This daily features Mr. and Mrs. Gold. Their daughter, Mary Gold would be one of the first comic strip characters to die in a comic strip just a couple of months after this strip. Another point of interest about this strip is that it is based on Jerry Gold losing money in the Stock Market. In September of 1929 (just seven months later), the Stock Market in the U.S. would begin to gyrate up and down wildly. Then on October 28th 1929, a day now known as "Black Monday", the Stock Market crashed. This sent the U.S. into the "Great Depression". Created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 20" x 5.75". Toned with a minor crease more visible from the reverse side. In Very Good condition.
