Description
Otto Soglow The Little King Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 9-22-68 (King Features, 1968). A crown jewel in the Hearst Newspapers empire, The Little King had started in 1930 as a New Yorker magazine feature, then branched out into animated cartoons. Its re-emergence in 1934 as a King Features (Hearst) attraction would hold a mass readership until Soglow's death in 1975. This splendid example appeared a year before the National Cartoonists Society anointed Soglow with its Reuben Award (after pioneering gagman Rube Goldberg). The near-absence of words is a hallmark of The Little King -- pictorial eloquence, with a well-timed visual punchline. Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of 19.25" x 13". Very Good condition, with glue stains in the logo stat, corner ceases, spot-staining, and lower-edge moisture damage.Auction Info
