Al Jaffee Tall Tales Daily Single Panel Comic Strip Original Art dated 5-9-59 (New York Herald Tribune, 1959). Why settle for a spare tire when you can keep a spare automobile in the trunk? Luxury has its perks. Al Jaffee's narrow vertical daily gag strip was an oddball format for newspapers that preferred wide horizontals, but it's perfectly on-brand for MAD's layout-wrecking maestro to make the format part of the joke. Ink and white paint highlights over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 2.75" x 11". Please note the art displays at an angle due to the trimming of the board. Light toning, discolored stat logo and syndicated paste-ups, editorial notes/marks, whiteout touch-ups, smudging, and minor staining on right edge. In Very Good condition.Auction Info
