Description

Walt Scott Simeon and Anna Daily Comic Strip Christmas Theme Original Art dated 12-13-48 (NEA Service, Inc., 1949). Back when newspapers relied upon the comics as circulation-builders, various syndicates would develop special Christmas-themed strips, usually running through the month of December. Here is a rarity among rarities, with Scott - creator of the year-round Little People feature - retelling the Biblical legend of St. Simeon. Most comics buffs picture Scott in terms of his Disney-trained cartooning style on The Little People (in both the strip and a recurring funnybook), but here Scott displays a realistic touch of unusual intensity. (It was around this time that Scott also was illustrating the high-adventure strip Captain Easy.) Ink over graphite on Duotone chemical-shading board. Image area, 20.5" x 6". Age-toned, with glue-stained blank areas that had contained narrative text. Good condition.
All proceeds from this special National Cartoonists Society Foundation auction item will go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
