Description
Irving Phillips The Strange World of Mr. Mum Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 12-26 (The Hall Syndicate, Inc., c. 1950s-60s). This wordless wonder featuring the ever-bemused, bespectacled Mr. Mum reached a peak circulation of 180 newspapers and found a warm reception overseas as well. One of the earliest widely published captionless strips, The Strange World of Mr. Mum carved out a niche with its dark, surreal humor that paved the way for later absurdist classics like The Far Side and Herman. Published by the Hall Syndicate from 1958 to 1967, before its merger with Publishers Syndicate, this strip appeared during that original run. Ink and screentone over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 8.5" x 11". Light toning, glue residue staining, discolored stat logo paste-up, minor production oil staining in margin, smudging, edge crease, and light handling wear. In Very Good condition.Auction Info
