Description

Leo Joseph Roche Buffalo Courier Express "Post-War Punishment" Editorial Cartoon Illustration Original Art (c. 1943-1944). A World War II Japanese war leader has bloody hands and a sword labeled "Japanese Brutalities" as he ponders the possibility of "Post-War Punishment". Roche worked as a staff artist at the Buffalo Courier Express from 1934 through 1965, creating poignant editorial cartoons. Ink and black pencil over graphite on Coquille board with an image area of 12.5" x 17.5". Slight toning, paper overlay adhered on the back, label in the bottom left margin, whiteout touch-ups, with light soiling/smudging and handling wear. Signed by Roche in the bottom left and in Very Good condition.
