Blades of Steel - VGA 85+ NM+ Sealed [Rev-A, Round SOQ, Early Production], NES Konami 1988 USA. Among the 12 copies of this Blades of Steel variant listed in VGA's October census, none received a higher grade. Adapted from the 1987 arcade classic, Blades of Steel quickly became a fan favorite on the NES, thanks to its fluid gameplay, arcade-style action, and memorable flourishes, including voice samples. Players controlled one of eight international teams, engaging in high-scoring, hard-hitting matches complete with body checks and even fistfights that erupted when tempers flared on the ice. During the second intermission, the scoreboard showed either a bear shooting a puck into the net or a playable Gradius mini-game with the Vic Viper battling a Big Core, followed by ads for Contra and Jackal. These elements came together to create one of the most recognizable hockey games of the 8-bit era, inspiring future sports titles to take risks with gameplay.Auction Info
