Description

Gaar Williams Wotta Life! Wotta Life! Daily Comic Strip Original Art Group of 4 (Chicago Tribune Syndicate, 1929-32). Everything Williams touched turned to droll irony. In hundreds of cartoons every year, the artist never failed to touch a nerve involving the sheer inconvenience of living -- and trigger a laugh, in the process. This informal suite contains, by turns, a self-defense mechanism for reluctantly attending a high-tone concert (12-7-29); a razzberry at the long-distance walking fad of the period (4-11-29); a dire warning about the Depression-era job market (5-5-32); and a prophetic look at the phenomenon of Social Distancing before there was a term for it (10-12-29). Gold-standard panel-gag delights. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 13" square. Toning and handling wear commensurate with age. Condition: Very Good. From the Ray Edw Collection.
