Rugrats "Pilot" Tommy Pickles Production Cel Setup with Key Master Background (Nickelodeon, 1990). Presented is an incredible hand-painted original production cel setup featuring Tommy Pickles, created for the "Pilot" episode of the long-running hit series Rugrats (also titled "Tommy Pickles and the Great White Thing"). Produced in 1990, this episode did not air until 8/7/2001, a decade after the monumental premiere of the series. The pilot was famously directed by the great Peter Chung, who would go on to create the groundbreaking animated sci-fi series Æon Flux for MTV. Animators credited for the pilot also include Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Ratatouille, The Iron Giant), Wes Archer (The Simpsons, King of the Hill, Bob's Burgers), and David Silverman (The Simpsons). Peter Chung's knack for low, baby-angle fisheye perspective is on full display here, a motif that the series maintains for its entire run. This impressive image is composed of a character cel and the Key Master background cel. The piece shows correction painting on Tommy's shirt, as he appears in an orange shirt in the back half of the short. Ultimately unused in the final cut, this piece is an exceptionally rare artifact from the creation and development of the popular series! Minor handling and edge wear with staples in the bottom corners. Small folds in corners, and the condition of the 16.25" x 10.25" setup is Very Good.
