Description
Clock Cleaners Father Time Color Model Drawing (Walt Disney, 1937). The brassy Father Time of Mickey's Clock Cleaners makes a keen appearance in this original color model drawing. Debuting on October 15, 1937, this Ben Sharpsteen-directed short follows Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy working as janitors in an incredibly tall clock tower. The statuesque figure can be seen hobbling out to ring the tower bell beginning near the 4:53 timestamp of the film, comically while Goofy is attempting to clean the massive chime. Father Time has been rendered in graphite and colored pencil to a full-figured characters size of 2.5" x 6" nicely centered on the 12 field 5-peghole animation sheet which includes color callouts and an animator's note to use yellower tones. The color model drawing comes from the personal archive of and is attributed to Disney Legend Ken O'Connor (1908 - 1998), who was hired as an in-betweener less than two years prior to Clock Cleaners' debut with marked talent that saw him quickly rise to the position of layout artist and art director at the Studio; though uncredited, this short featured some of his earliest layout work and cemented him as an artist with an incredible aptitude for bending the rules of perspectives with dramatic effect. With typical handling and edge wear including age-related toning, vertical fold creases flanking the character image, minor surface wrinkles, and faint areas of smudging, overall this neatly rendered mechanical man is in Good to Very Good condition.From the Ken O’Connor Archive.
