Description
Chibi Maruko-chan Production Cel with Master Background and Layout Drawing Group of 5 (Nippon Animation, c. 1990-92). The titular Momoko Sakura, nicknamed "Maruko," is featured here in an adorable set of three original production cels from the slice-of-life anime series Chibi Maruko-chan. A rare three-for-one, this lot also includes two original layout drawings from the series (also known as rare genga, attributed to key animators) rendered in graphite and color pencil on 12 field animation paper. The cels depict charming, centered images of Maruko with a variety of expressions, and the image of her sitting at dinner is presented on a rare Master background rendered beautifully in gouache on board. The other two cels are displayed on printed backgrounds for presentation purposes. The layout drawings feature Maruko with her family members Tomozo, Sumire, and Hiroshi, created for the 125th episode with production notes for modification direction. Each piece shows varying degrees of handling and edge wear. One cel shows wrinkling, and the cel numbered A2 has a small fold in the upper right corner. The drawings show pinholes and tape at the top edges, and the overall condition is Fair to Very Good.Auction Info
