Description
Make Mine Music "Casey at Bat" Band Production Cel with Custom Background and Publicity Photo (Walt Disney, 1946). Here is an amazing 16 field multilayer production cel of the band from the "Casey at Bat" segment of Make Mine Music displayed on a custom gouache background with a black and white publicity photo! The segment was released with the film on 8/15/1946 and later re-issued as its own short on 7/16/1954, telling the Disney version of the 1888 poem as Casey from Mudville tries sets out to win the baseball game. He's the last hope for his team, but ultimately loses because of his own pride and hubris. The band members measure about 12.75'' x 9'' combined and appear at about 3:35 as they play to celebrate one of their players landing on second base. At least five players are caricatures of Disney artists and appear to be Ward Kimball, Frank Thomas, Ollie Johnston, Marc Davis, and Disney himself. The lot is displayed in a 20'' x 16'' mat with the 10'' x 8.5'' publicity photo on the reverse, printed on photographic paper. Good condition with toning on the background, minor handling wear, faint scuffing, and pinholes and edge wear on the photo.Auction Info
