Description
Various World War II Propaganda & Educational Films Studio-Used Storyboard and Concept Print Group of 12 (Walt Disney/Herb Lamb, c. 1940s). Historical and World War II animation collectors have a rare chance to add this group of 12 studio-used storyboard and concept prints from various propaganda and educational films produced by Walt Disney and former Disney staffer Herb Lamb. Disney was tasked with creating numerous training and propaganda videos for the US Navy, Air Force, Treasury Department, and US Government during World War II (reportedly over 400,000 feet of war film) that helped the studio stay afloat until the end of the war in 1945. All printed on photographic paper, this lot includes 4 sheets of storyboards for Two Down, One to Go (1944, prod. code 4007), 2 sheets of storyboards for Know Your Enemy: Japan (1945), and 1 concept print each for The New Spirit (1942, prod. code 2068) and The Spirit of '43 (1943). These are joined by 4 sheets of storyboards for The ABC's of Internal Combustion Engines (1947) which began development at Disney (noted by the copyright stamps on the reverse side) likely as a follow-up to the General Motors-sponsored feature The ABC's of Hand Tools (1946), but was amicably transferred to the short-lived studio Herb Lamb Productions that had been established by former Disney employees Herbert Lamb and Tom Codrick for final production after Walt shuttered Disney's industrial division. Across the lot, these 12 sheets range in overall size from 10" x 8" to 17" x 10.5". With typical handling and edge wear including age-related toning, fold creases, pin holes, surface wrinkles with minor edge tearing, and light surface wear/debris, overall this historic collection is in Good condition. From the Ken O’Connor Archive.
